APM Awards Steering Group Committee Member

The prestigious APM Project Management Awards is an annual industry awards programme celebrating excellence in innovation, leadership and achievement across the project profession. Entrants can enter 18 awards across five categories.  

This volunteering opportunity plays an important role in our Project Management Awards process.  This advisory role, provides advice and recommendations to ensure the integrity, fairness and robustness of the APM Project Management Awards judging process, including advising on finalists and winners, and on improvements to categories, criteria and rules.

To apply as an ASG member, volunteers must be a member of APM and able to attend online meetings in UK office hours (09:00-17:00) to apply.

APM Project Management Awards Steering Group (ASG) Member

Purpose 

The Awards Steering Group and its members play an advisory role, accountable to the APM Events Team, providing advice and recommendations to ensure the integrity, fairness and robustness of the APM Project Management Awards judging process, including advising on finalists and winners, and improvements to categories, criteria and rules. 

Eligibility 

  • Aged 18 years or over 
  • Paying APM member
  • Able to attend online meetings within UK office hours (09.00 – 17:00)
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in project and/or programme management, across a number of industries.
  • Ideally have awards/judging experience.
  • Completion of APM volunteering onboarding will be required 
  • ASG members cannot apply to be a judge or entrant for the awards during tenure

Expectations

  • Review and scrutinise judges’ scores and feedback to advise finalists and winners
  • Ensure adherence to rules of entry, judging processes and code of conduct ensuring consistency and fairness
  • Discuss, advise and support resolution on: 
    • Disputes, appeals and breaches of rules
    • Conflicts of interest and required actions 
  • Contribute to discussions and recommendations on: 
    • Changes to categories and criteria
    • Improvements to rules of entry 
  • Use feedback and insights from previous awards to inform continuous improvement of the APM Project Management Awards
  • Attend all scheduled meetings and participate in group discussions
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all discussions and decisions
  • Adhere to:
    • APM Code of Professional Conduct
    • APM Project Management Awards Judging Code of Conduct
    • Volunteer policies including conflicts of interest, safeguarding and data protection
  • Support the integrity and reputation of the Awards process

Estimated time commitment 

  • Minimum of four formal meetings per year (typically January, July, September and December), plus additional meetings if required (online). ASG members are expected to attend all meetings. 
  • Attendance at online judges training (once every three years) 
  • Availability by email for correspondence with other APM Awards Steering Group members, Awards Moderator and APM Events Team
  • Attendance at second stage judging presentations (Project categories).
  • Optional attendance at the Awards ceremony (November), with potential presenting responsibilities. 
  • ASG members appointed for a three-year term, with a maximum of two terms (not necessarily consecutive)
  • Six months’ notice required to step down early 

Evaluation criteria 

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in project and/or programme management, across a number of industries.
  • Experience and understanding of APM Awards/judging processes, or willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated commitment, professionalism and active participation in meetings and activities 
  • Ability to apply sound judgement and maintain fairness and objectivity in decision-making 
  • Alignment with APM values, standards and professional conduct
  • Hold one or more of the following for the duration of the role: 
    • APM Associate membership with relevant experience and qualification
    • Full Membership (MAPM)
    • Fellowship (FAPM / HonFAPM)
    • Chartered Project Professional (ChPP)

Additional information  

  • ASG membership is voluntary and unpaid
  • The group operates independently of event logistics, marketing, or operational delivery
