What is the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ)?

The APM Project Management Qualification (SCQF Level 7) is a knowledge-based qualification. It enables you to demonstrate knowledge of all elements of project management. You'll be able to demonstrate an understanding of how these elements interact and how your project fits into your strategic and commercial environment.

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is for those wanting to participate in projects of all sizes. You'll typically have some pre existing project management knowledge. It’s the ideal next step for anyone holding the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification.

Accredited training provider
You can study with our accredited training providers who offer the APM Project Management Qualification in many different formats including classroom, e-learning, distance learning, public and in-house courses.
Self study with exam
We also offer the APM Project Management Qualification as a self-study open online exam which you can take from the comfort of your own home at a time that suits you.

How is it assessed?

There are two examination routes for the qualification:

  • A three-hour paper with an additional 15 minutes reading time at the start where candidates must answer ten from sixteen questions.

    or

  • If you are a PRINCE2® Practitioner you will take a two-hour paper with an additional 10 minutes reading time at the start that recognises prior learning. In this paper you must answer six from ten questions.

APM Project Management Qualification for PRINCE2® Practitioners

We’ve created a route to achieve our flagship qualification, the APM Project Management Qualification specifically designed for PRINCE2® Practitioners. With a shorter training course and exam, this route will save you time and money. The qualification will develop your knowledge and understanding beyond your learning from PRINCE2®, to help you grow into a committed and capable project professional. It also prepares you to deliver project success in critical areas such as budgeting and cost management, conflict management and teamwork.

There are 73 assessment criteria from the APM Body of Knowledge examined in the syllabus. As 26 of these are covered by PRINCE2® Practitioner, you will only be examined on the remaining 47 assessment criteria, including communication, earned value management, procurement and negotiation.
