Engagement. The complicated, unpredictable, difficult stuff that often gets minimised. Referred to as “fluffy” or “too difficult to tackle”. People have the power to tank even the most well-planned projects. They can be unpredictable and illogical. They often evade the mitigations we design and take our projects off track. But if you get engagement just right (that goldilocks space!) your stakeholders can take your project to new heights!

Christine is Head of Engagement for the Charity for Civil Servants, having spent many years managing project portfolio’s, and seeing first-hand the trials and tribulations of trying to reach that sweet spot in project engagement. She doesn’t have all the answers, but she’s spent some time creating the Active Listening Panel tool to support Project Managers who recognise the need to structure project engagement, to turn it from ‘too difficult’ or ‘fluffy’ into a credible, achievable, built-in element of projects.
