Chartered deadline
What is the Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) standard?
As the only chartered membership organisation for the project profession, we set the benchmark. The Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) standard demonstrates the attainment of a defined level of technical knowledge, professional practice and ethical behaviour. Proving exceptional project capabilities.
ChPP is more than a standard. It’s an inclusive community of like-minded professionals who want to excel at delivering projects, sitting on the Register of Chartered Project Professionals.
Our chartered standard is being updated in 2023 to align to our latest Competence Framework. Here are key dates you’ll need to know if you’re thinking of applying.
The name, status and rigour of our chartered standard will remain the same as our current edition.
- 17 March - final opportunity to submit or re-submit under the current standard aligned to the 2nd edition Competence Framework*
- Spring 2023 – updated standard published
- 22 May 2023 – Applications open
*After this date, all current applications that have not been submitted will be deleted
Who should become a Chartered Project Professional (ChPP)?
ChPP is for anyone that meets all of the following criteria:
- having a proven track record delivering projects, programmes, portfolios or a key control or enabling function
- having up-to-date knowledge of current practices and methods
- being actively involved in the project profession
Our Chartered Project Professionals span a range of sectors, ages and career stages, from organisations big and small. You do not need to be an APM member to apply.

What is a recognised assessment?
A recognised assessment is awarded to an organisation who can show that a particular development programme or qualification meets either the technical knowledge or the technical knowledge and professional practice criteria needed to achieve the standard.
This means that if you have successfully passed the assessment you’ll be eligible to apply for the Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) standard via Route 1 (for assessments meeting the requirements for technical knowledge) or Route 2 (for assessments meeting the requirements for technical knowledge and professional practice).
Chartered standard and the APM Competence Framework
Earlier this year we launched the 3rd edition of our APM Competence Framework and a new self-assessment tool to help individual project professionals benchmark themselves. Please note, however, that for the foreseeable future the chartered standard remains aligned to the 2nd edition of the APM Competence Framework.
